Changing the user-id for External Debugging

In some cases, external system uses a fixed user id or technical user id to make a call in SAP. In that case, you need to change the user id for external debugging (if you have noticed in external debugging that debugging is valid only for a specific user id).

To change the user id, to Utilities > Settings > Debugging tab

Enter the user id use for the calling transactions. Any external break point added after that, will be triggered for that user id. Now you can execute the transaction in the external system.

In which scenario, the user id change may be required:

  • UI Call – Although now single sign on is the norm and technical/fixed user id should not be used.
  • Middleware call – Since the transaction are technical in nature, fixed user id is used.
  • The consultants debugging the transaction, does not have authorization to external system.
  • May be just for fun.

Please remember to switch back the id to your own user id, after the debugging is done. It does not change back automatically with relogin.
