Five (5) points to consider while creating Cube with Star Join
Cube with Star Join – will be your final view which you will be using for consumption. Although this term is often used for calculation views, the philosophy is true for CDS Views as well. A Cube with Star Join is a View where we join the attributes with the measure.
- Create your dimension views and cube views (more of topic here). In the Cube with Star Join, you should be combining data from these views only and not from a data source (tables). The base views should be created in such a way that it can be reused for a similar example.
- While you can do the aggregation in Cube with Star Join, it is a good practice to complete all aggregation and data manipulation before in the Cubes and Dimension views.
- UI Semantics should be added in the final view as much as possible which will be a Cube with Star Join.
- Use Projection Node to remove columns you don’t want from the source views.
- If you need to add filter on measure based on attributes then you have a choice to either create a Cube view with attributes or create a Cube with star join but then create another cube with star join as final consumption view. In the end, the view exposed for consumption should be as simple as possible.
